In 2014, 14% of the total Hong Kong population, i.e. 1,070,000 people, were aged 65 and above. This number is projected to increase to 36%, i.e.2,580,000 by 2064. With a rapidly ageing population, ensuring the adequate provision of quality care services for the elderly has become an important priority for Po Leung Kuk.
With the rapid aging of our population, the demand for services for the elderly have been increasing. Po Leung Kuk in the eighties began to formulate development plans for elderly services. We accord high priority to develop and strengthen services for elderly people. Our mission is to ensure elderly under our care can live a healthy and enjoyable life by enabling them with different programmes and activities, respecting their individual needs and looking after them with utmost care and concern.
Our Vision

Service Features
We place strong emphasis on staff training and development, and promote teamwork through co-operation and communication. We also actively encourage our staff to develop their skills and knowledge through continuous learning so that they can improve the delivery of our services.
Community Support Services
- District Elderly Community and Neighbourhood Elderly Centres facilities cater for the elderly and their carers. The Centre’s programmes are implemented through educational and social groups, carer support groups, volunteer services, counselling and outreach services.
- Health Enhancement Centre for the Senior is equipped with modern fitness facilities for our elders to exercise and keep healthy.
- Lifelong Learning Institute for the Senior encourages our elders to pursue lifelong learning by offering them short courses in subjects such as basic computer skills, hairdressing and manicuring.
- Family Joy Centre furnished with a modern and relaxed décor for a homely atmosphere, organized activities for the whole family - from elders to children so as to foster intergenerational love, understanding and mutual respect.
- Patients Empowerment Programme (PEP) help patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension who live in Kowloon East Cluster and New Territories East Cluster enhancing their self health management concept and promoting healthy living style.
- Multi-disciplinary Outreaching Support Teams for the Elderly (MOSTE) is pilot scheme, comprising social workers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists, provides outreach support services for the service users of private residential care homes for the elderly in Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing district to address their social and rehabilitation needs.
Home Care Services
- Our day care centres provide a range of centre-based care and support services for the less mobile elders so that they can be looked after in the centres during the day time and return home in the evening.
- Our Enhanced Home and Community Care Service Teams provide comprehensive homecare so the elders whilst receiving our service can stay at home and enjoy their time in familiar surroundings.
- The Pilot Scheme on Community Care Service Voucher for the Elderly - Kuk is a "Recognised Service Provider" by Social Welfare Department. Day Care & Home Care Services will be provided for elders living in the community.
Residential Care Home
- We adopt a multi-discipline approach in all our homes. Professional social workers, medical officers, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists work as a team to meet the varied needs of our residents.
- We are now operating 13 homes providing a total capacity of 1515 beds.
- The Wong Chuk Hang Infirmary is the first infirmary operated by Po Leung Kuk.
- Our homes are equipped with facilities that include long-term beds with pressure reduction mattresses, beauty salons, bathtubs equipped with special massagers, sensory rooms, rehabilitation areas and carer support corners. All homes are using the Webster-Pak system to monitor drug dispensing so as to help minimize the risk of misallocating medicines.
- The electric adjustable long-term care beds provided in all our homes are highly effective in preventing the bed-bound residents from getting bed sores. Beds for residents prone to fall also have electrical detection devices installed which would automatically notify staff when the patients are away from their beds.
